Zambra Wine and Tapas

2008 Espelt Sauló, Empordà-Costa Brava, at Zambra

I wish we had allowed more time to enjoy Zambra Wine and Tapas, but my boyfriend and I had just spent an evening drinking beer at Lexington Avenue Brewery and wining and dining at Bouchon with friends. We were on our way back to the Hotel Indigo Asheville, hiking up steepest section of Walnut Street, when we noticed Zambra. I believe they were closing when we entered, but they allowed us to stay since we said we just wanted drinks. Even at closing the restaurant was still crowded, a very good sign. The wine list was extensive. We ordered an inexpensive Garnacha-Carignan blend, 2008 Espelt Sauló, Empordà-Costa Brava. It was an easy-drinking wine with lots red berry flavors, spice, an earthy quality, and nice acidity. It was a nice wine for the price ($10-15 retail, $24 restaurant). Next time we visit Asheville, Zambra will be on our list for both food and wine.
