Ibiza Tapas and Wine Bar, Pittsburgh PA

Wine Flight of the Night: Pinot Grigio, Albariño, Shiraz, and Malbec

After tasting beer for a few days on a recent trip to Pittsburgh, I was craving wine. My boyfriend said to his Android phone’s GPS, “Wine bar!” and it directed us to Ibiza Tapas and Wine Bar in Pittsburgh’s bustling South Side area. According to the website, Ibiza’s menu boasts “over 45 tapas from all around the world” and focuses on regional cuisine from Europe and South America. Ibiza was a participant in the foursquare/American Express Shop Small program, so we split our check and each earned a $10 rebate as a credit on our American Express cards.

Fresh mushroom bruschetta

We decided to try an assortment of tapas: Pan con champiñones y hierbas frescas (Fresh mushroom bruschetta, $3), Aceitunas marinadas (Marinated olives, $3), Mejillones a la normandia (Fresh Prince Island black mussels à la Normande, $8), Caille a la bordelaise (Quail in a red wine sauce, $12), and a special not found on the standard menu, spicy scallops, $15. I tried the Wine Flight of the Night for $14, which had two-ounce pours of Pinot Grigio, Albariño, Shiraz, and Malbec. The wines were perfect for such a variety of food.

Mussels à la Normande

Our favorites of the night were the mushroom bruschetta, mussels à la Normande, and spicy scallops. The portion sizes for the mushroom bruschetta, olives, and mussels were generous, while I thought $15 for three scallops, while large, was a bit expensive. I wanted more! It was my first time ever trying quail and it seemed a bit dry and overcooked, but the red wine sauce was delicious.
